Stylemax, the Merchandise Mart’s quarterly women’s apparel trade show, begins Saturday. During its four days, buyers from local and national stores browse more than 3,000 clothing and accessory lines, from upscale department store standbys such as BCBG Max Azria, Ella Moss and Laundry by Shelli Segal to little-known newcomers.
The largest women’s show in the Midwest, Stylemax has faced little competition . . . until now.
During the show, manufacturers’ representative Michelle Alcott expects to see about 100 customers — but not within the confines of the Mart.
Ms. Alcott’s buyers will check out her lines at Kinzie Street Showrooms, the venture she and seven other womenswear reps launched last spring at 400 N. Wells St., across the street from the Mart. The eight Kinzie Street reps expect to visit with 300 to 400 buyers this week.
